B. create original works as a means of personal or group expression.
C. use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues.
D. identify trends and forecast possibilities
Student can use inspiration software to create a time line of events or brainstorm ideas.
2. Communication & Collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students:

C. develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures.
D. contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.
Students taking online courses through WebCT. Students being placed in groups. This helps build a learning community. Students working collaboratively to complete assignments. At the end of the course students have to complete a final project using an emergent technology of their choice. (For example, Wiki's, podcast, and bloggs)(being used)
3. Research & Information Fluency

D. contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.
Students can use the del.icio.us website to organize research articles and to search database for relevant content. Delicious is a bookmarking database you can access from any computer.
4. Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving, and Decision-Making
Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Students:
A. identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation.
B. plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project.
C. collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions.
D. use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions.
Math project (Who’s Your Mathematician?) Using google pagecreator to create a webpage on a famous mathematician. Students can work in groups to complete this project. Students will plan and conduct research on the famous mathematician. The students webpage will be the complete project. Students can visually display content by using pictures and text.
5. Digital Citizenship
Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students:
A. advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology.
B. exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity.
C. demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning.
D. exhibit leadership for digital citizenship.
Students can create netiquette content for technologies being used in the classroom. Students can work collaboratively to create a classroom list of policy and procedures on how to conduct themselves when using technologies. Students can research the term netiquette using any search engine such as google or yahoo.
6. Technology Operations & Concepts
Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students:
A. understand and use technology systems.
B. select and use applications effectively and productively.
C. troubleshoot systems and applications.
D. transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies.

Episode 13 - College Teaching Tech Tips
Episode 13- College Teaching Tech Tips
This podcast was very informative. The podcast was an interview with Anne T. Ottenbriet-Leftwich from the Indiana University School of Education. She is an instruction who teaches instructional technology classes.
The department has 400 students. She starts off by talking about ways to engage students. She mentions building a learning community and having lab instructors with students so that physical engagement is there. The department uses WebCt blackboarding system to communicate with students. Students submit assignments to the discussion boards and add their picture and respond to others. This way the instructors and students know each other names.
Clickers are remote controls students use to respond to questions on a large screen. Students point and answer questions. This is a good way to assess students knowledge of material or past experiences. The instructor can see percentages of students responses.
Tablets are laptops that turn into a tablet you can write on. If you are grading papers you do not have to print the paper out or use the insert comment option in word. You can circle and make comments within the document. You can also make voice comments on the document. It is just like you are talking to the student. Tablet can be used in any application.
For distance education classes, you can have video conference with experts in the field. Students can meet experts in the field and ask question.
Audio and Video conference can be used to talk back and forth with students from other parts of the world. Can deliver instruction using conferencing.
Using a listserv so you can email all of your students at one time to communicate with students.
When doing assessments instructor can have a link to a survey. Free online survey tools surveyshare.com is free. Have pie charts and drafts.
Online office hours if students are at a distance. Have in chat forum using instant messenger and Skype. Use multiple user names so you are assessable to your students when you want.
Review session for test can be podcast so students can download and listen to at their convenience.
Scavenger Hunt
It was a difficult task, but I am done. The scavenger hunt was really fun. I had a hard time finding # 9. The hint from #8 did not help me. It stated something about attending the 2007 conference, I did not go so it did help me. I started clicking all of the teleport links and I did a lot of flying, to see a better view. I finally clicked the correct link. There I am victory is so sweet. I really enjoy this assignment. I look forward to interacting more often in secondlife.
